Park Rules

The rules that apply throughout Bowie Nature Park and in the Treehouse Playground, covering vehicles and speed, pets, fishing, fires, alcohol, swimming and boating, and the protection of the park's plants and wildlife.

These rules keep the park safe and keep Dr. Bowie’s forest intact. Please read them before you visit, and share them with anyone coming with you.

Park rules

  • Vehicles are restricted to designated roads and parking areas only.
  • The speed limit is 10 miles per hour on all roads in the park.
  • No alcoholic beverages allowed on park property.
  • No dumping or littering on park property.
  • All pets must be on a leash or tether at all times.
  • No swimming allowed on park property.
  • No boating allowed in the park without written permission from the Parks Department.
  • Riding on closed trails can result in a citation.
  • Cutting of timber is prohibited except by permission of the City Manager or Park Director.
  • Fires should only be started in park grills located around the picnic shelters, unless there is written consent from the City Manager or Park Director.
  • Fishing is allowed at any of the five lakes at the park, except where prohibited by sign. A valid Tennessee fishing license is required, and children under 12 years old must have adult supervision.
  • No hunting allowed on park property.
  • Removal of plants is prohibited.
  • Disturbing the habitat of animals is prohibited.

Treehouse Playground

  • No children may be left unattended.
  • No smoking in the playground.
  • No pets in the playground.
  • No bicycles in the playground.
  • No climbing on the fence or slides.
  • No skateboards, bikes or scooters on the walking trail.
  • Please do not walk your dog in the Treehouse Playground area.
