Let your tots and toddlers sing, dance, play instruments, and just have fun with Miss Tess

Join Miss Tess for a once weekly, early childhood, music and movement class! Using curricula and inspiration from the world-renowned Musikgarten program, your child can begin, or further their journey as makers and lovers of music.  These courses will explore the fundamentals of musicianship in concordance with the four seasons of nature, incorporating poetry, sensory exploration, and joyful play in every class.

Classes are intended to be attended weekly, as a 15 class series, and not on a drop-in basis.

Ages:  3 to 5 years

11:00am—12:00pm

$150 per 15-week series  – Registration due by January 30th

*Optional $40 class materials fee

Ages:  16mnths to 2.5yrs

9:30—10:00am

$120 per 15-week series  – Registration is due by January 30th

Hot Cocoa and A Hike

Start the year off by getting outside! Winter is a wonderful time to hike in Bowie Nature Park. Meet us at the Nature Center where we will grab some hot cocoa and go for a stroll in the crisp, cool weather.

Join Park staff once a month for a different land stewardship project such as trail repair, invasive plant removal, and reintroduction of native plant species. With each task, we will be helping to preserve the natural beauty of this park for future generations to enjoy.

Classes Designed for Homeschoolers

NATURE RANGERS

AGES: 13-18 YEARS OLD

10am-12pm

February 20th – Exotics, Invasives, and Land Management

March 13th – Animal Adaptations 

Bowie is beginning a Homeschool Class designed for 13-18 year olds! Seize this unique opportunity to closely study the park’s ecology using scientific methods. Participants will do hands on field research using lab techniques and data collection to examine the many environments of Bowie.

Registration is required.

NATURE SCOUTS

Theme: Birds

January 31st, February 14th, February 28th, & March 14th

Ages: 8 to 12 years

12:00pm – 1:30pm

Allow your child’s interest to thrive in this comprehensive science program that uses four classes over an eight-week period to investigate a seasonal theme. This program has a special registration process. Please contact us for more information.

HOMESCHOOL PROGRAM

Ages: 5 to 12 years

9:00-11:00am or 1:00-3:00pm

Join us monthly as we become scientists and learn the skills necessary to observe and explore our natural world.  Each month we will have a new topic.

January 29th – Soil Stories.

The ground beneath our feet is filled with life giving nutrients. Without it, many things would struggle to survive. Come find out why the dirt we take for granted is so special.

February 26th – Recycling and Composting 

Refuse, Reuse, Reduce, Repurpose, and Recycle! Come discuss the 5 R’s with us and learn a few different ways to compost. These mindful practices can help you change the world by starting at home!

March 19th – Clean Energy

Energy is dirty, let’s clean it up! There are several types of clean energy available to us. Many of them are inspired by animals. Join us as we explore these natural inspirations and try a few out ourselves.

April 30th – Wetland Ecology

Wetlands are incredibly unique spaces. In this class, we will investigate some of the park’s wetlands, uncover why they are so exceptional, and learn what creatures depend on them for survival.

Registration opens at 8:00am on the date stated. You must register in order to attend the program.

Community Parks Day 2017

Memory Tree

This year’s Memory Tree will begin December 16th from 12pm-3pm.

A Christmas tree will be placed inside Joann’s Outdoor Classroom. You are invited to come and bring an ornament for someone to be remembered this year in a special way and in a special place.

Star Party October 20, 2017

7pm-9pm

Join Bowie Nature Park and Bernard-Seyfert Astronomical Society at our Star Party! BSAS will provide telescopes to look at objects such as Saturn, Mars, and double stars!
