Puppet Powwow

Ages: Families

Have a seat around our puppet theatre in Joann’s Outdoor Classroom as our naturalists present a series of puppet shows! Every series will revolve around a central environmental theme such as life cycles, hibernation, or pollination. Puppet shows will be followed by activities that enhance the topic addressed in the show.

Yoga with Maarika Mann


Ages: 13 & Up


Currently meeting in the Nature Center Classroom

Donations are welcome. No registration required.

From saucha to savasana, come practice yoga in the Nature Center. Learn basic meditation to calm your mind, yin yoga to strengthen your poses, and yoga sequences you can incorporate into your own practice. Please bring a mat and water. Yoga block recommended.

Enjoy an evening stroll in Bowie Park as we look and listen for amphibians. We will learn to identify some of TN’s frogs by sound and sight, look for salamanders, and explore some great amphibian habitat.

Let your tots and toddlers sing, dance, play instruments, and just have fun with Miss Tess

Join Miss Tess for a once weekly, early childhood, music and movement class! Using curricula and inspiration from the world-renowned Musikgarten program, your child can begin, or further their journey as makers and lovers of music.  These courses will explore the fundamentals of musicianship in concordance with the four seasons of nature, incorporating poetry, sensory exploration, and joyful play in every class.

Classes are intended to be attended weekly, as a 15 class series, and not on a drop-in basis.

Ages:  3 to 5 years

Hot Cocoa and A Hike

Start the year off by getting outside! Winter is a wonderful time to hike in Bowie Nature Park. Meet us at the Nature Center where we will grab some hot cocoa and go for a stroll in the crisp, cool weather.

Join Park staff once a month for a different land stewardship project such as trail repair, invasive plant removal, and reintroduction of native plant species. With each task, we will be helping to preserve the natural beauty of this park for future generations to enjoy.

February 20th – Exotics, Invasives, and Land Management

March 13th – Animal Adaptations 

Bowie is beginning a Homeschool Class designed for 13-18 year olds! Seize this unique opportunity to closely study the park’s ecology using scientific methods. Participants will do hands on field research using lab techniques and data collection to examine the many environments of Bowie.

Allow your child’s interest to thrive in this comprehensive science program that uses four classes over an eight-week period to investigate a seasonal theme. This program has a special registration process. Please contact us for more information.

Join us monthly as we become scientists and learn the skills necessary to observe and explore our natural world.  Each month we will have a new topic.

The ground beneath our feet is filled with life giving nutrients. Without it, many things would struggle to survive. Come find out why the dirt we take for granted is so special.

Refuse, Reuse, Reduce, Repurpose, and Recycle! Come discuss the 5 R’s with us and learn a few different ways to compost. These mindful practices can help you change the world by starting at home!

Energy is dirty, let’s clean it up! There are several types of clean energy available to us. Many of them are inspired by animals. Join us as we explore these natural inspirations and try a few out ourselves.

April 30th – Wetland Ecology

Wetlands are incredibly unique spaces. In this class, we will investigate some of the park’s wetlands, uncover why they are so exceptional, and learn what creatures depend on them for survival.
