Unfortunately NatureNauts has been canceled this Saturday. Mr. Dennis will not be available that day.
However, we will still have the 14th Annual Memory Tree at Joann’s Outdoor Classroom. Bring an ornament in remembrance of a loved one. The Memory Tree will be open from 12pm that day until 3pm. You can also visit or bring an ornament any day after Saturday until the tree is taken down.
Canceled. Check our Facebook for more information.
Join in the holiday spirit of giving and come out to Fairview’s Community Parks Day on December 3rd, 9am-12pm. In 2014, in honor of Evangeline Bowie’s many gifts, The City of Fairview proclaimed the first Saturday in December as Community Parks Day, a day of volunteerism in the parks of Fairview. Individuals, scout groups, corporate groups, families, High School clubs, church groups, etc. are all invited to volunteer at the Third Annual Community Parks Day. This year it will be held at Veterans Memorial Park at Evergreen Lake and include helping to clean up the park, removing unwanted structures, and painting existing structures.
Evergreen Lake was given to the City of Fairview in February of 1992 by Dr. Evangeline Bowie. In 2012, Evergreen Lake was renamed Veterans Memorial Park at Evergreen Lake in honor of the men and women who have served our country.
On Saturday, December 3rd, volunteers are asked to check in between 9:00 and 9:30am at the sign-in booth under the popup canopy. At check-in, groups will be divided into crews. The volunteer project will take place from 9:30am-12pm. Volunteers are encouraged but not required to stay the entire time. At 12pm a hotdog lunch will be provided for all volunteers.
WHY: The staff has big plans for this small park, but before things can truly get started, it needs a little tender love and care. The staff hopes to be able to make the trail around the lake comply with ADA guidelines, continue working with the JROTC to create a memorial for Veterans, build a handicap accessible fishing pier, add a picnic shelter, and also possibly add some other picnic tables around the lake trail. The work we do during this event will pave the way for these projects.
WHO: This Community Parks Day is appropriate for individuals, volunteer groups and families. Children under the age of 16 must be supervised by an adult at all times.
TO BRING: Volunteers should bring work gloves and wear weather-appropriate attire that they don’t mind getting dirty, including sturdy closed-toe shoes. Volunteers that have their own drills and philips-head bits are encouraged to bring them, but it is not necessary to volunteer.
WE’LL BRING: The Parks Department will provide grabbers, trash bags, paint, rollers, and paint brushes. We will also provide water throughout the event and a hotdog lunch at the end.
